Treasures and Trivia of Lives 200 Years Ago

Most people think they know what to expect in a library. Books. But historical society libraries are quite different. They preserve the details of the personal lives of the citizens of the area, over the years. They preserve the roots of the civilization of the community that flourishes today.

They bring history to life and add detail to the dates the ancestor lived. The Library of the Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society is just such a place and contains a variety of holdings and collections not available for researchers anywhere else in the community. And the really good news - it is free to all visitors, members or not.

Visiting researchers should call ahead (717.520.0748) or contact us by email so that a research librarian will be available to maximize the results of your research time. There is absolutely no charge for visitors to use our library or resources. Please plan to visit us and take advantage of our fine resources.

Modest fees are charged for Xerox copies and for research undertaken by the library research staff. Our Ancestor by Century Index allows us to predict research time, number of Xerox copies to be made, and even the postage required quite accurately. We can also scan and email images of documents saving you wait time.

Reprint of an obituary

$ 2 (flat fee per sheet, no research charge, the sheet will include others with same surname)

Cemetery search

$ 5 (flat fee, no research charge, search will include three alternate spellings of your choice and will provide relationships, military, or other data, when known)

Individualized research

$10 per hour

Xerox charges

$0.20 per page for non-members or $0.15 per page for members

Postage

$1 for 10 pages

Requests for research can be sent by email and an estimate given. Upon receipt of the payment, research will be sent along with an adjusted bill if necessary.
