No7 Returned to Hershey on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Friends of the Hershey Trolley have recently acquired Hershey No7 trolley from Amy Dolbin in Enola, PA.  No7 has been a residence for Amy and her family through the years since the 1940’s after Hershey Transit ceased to exist.  No7 will be returning to Hershey on Tuesday, Aug. 28th, where it will be housed in the West Car Barn, along with No3, awaiting restoration.

No7 was built by the Cincinnati Car Co. in 1914 for the Ephrata & Lebanon Traction line and ran as No21 until 1931 when the line stopped operating.  No21 was sold to Hershey Transit, along with No20 and 30, refurbished, and put into use as No’s 4, 7, and 8 in 1934.  The three Cincinnati cars ran on the Hershey Transit line until the end in 1946.  These cars were slower, geared for mountainous terrain, which made them practical for climbing to Hotel Hershey.

Friends is comprised of community members and volunteers, including HDTHS, HE&R, Hershey Museum, Milton Hershey School, and the MS Hershey Foundation.

PRESS RELEASE 1/10/2007          A New Life for the Hersheypark Miniature Train

Volunteers Needed to Polish a Piece of History

The Friends of the Hershey Trolley (FOHT) and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Co. (HE&R), the parent company of Hersheypark, have announced that they will be working together to restore the Hershey Park Miniature Railroad train for display in the community.

This little gem operated in Hershey Park * from 1910 until 1970. Brad Ginder and Jay Robertson are co-chairmen of the restoration project and are seeking volunteers to assist with woodworking and refinishing; volunteers also are needed to assist with research and with photo and history archiving. HE&R has made an initial donation for materials and is providing the workspace for the restoration.

FOHT is a committee of The Hershey Derry Township Historical Society. Its mission is the education and preservation of the Hershey Transit trolley system that ran from 1904 to 1946. If interested in volunteering, please call Lisa Schirato at 717-533-9574 or email us at trolleys@hersheyhistory.org. For more information on FOHT or the society, visit our website at www.hersheyhistory.org.

Miniature Train photos made available from the Hershey Community Archives.
